William W. Treat Scholarship

Recipient: Michael Morse

Michael Morse

“I am very thankful for receiving the William W. Treat Scholarship because last semester there was a death in my family and affording school became much more difficult than it was previously. This has helped me to remain in school and continue my progress toward graduation.”

Michael Morse was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts, and he grew up in Manchester, New Hampshire. He is a third year Business Administration major with a concentration in Accounting. He plans on becoming a CPA after obtaining a degree from college. At the University of Maine Michael is involved in many different organizations, such as Kappa Sigma, of which he is the president, Inter Fraternity Council, of which he is the treasurer, and Campus Recreation.

The William W. Treat Scholarship was established in 2000 through a gift from Judge William W. Treat, a member of the Class of 1940. He was the first Treat to attend college. While he was a student at the University of Maine he worked seven jobs to pay his way through college. During his life he has served in the following careers: law, banking, business, the judiciary and diplomacy. According to Judge Treat, “To be able now as a graduate to help people as deserving as Michael Morse and others is very satisfying and encourages me to do more.”
