Martina Rezendes Scholarship

Recipient: Beth Peters

Beth Peters

“Thanks to Mr. Rezendes and his generosity, I have been able to focus and excel in my studies. Being an out of state student, tuition is pretty expensive. Receiving this scholarship has allowed me to continue to study here at the University of Maine and pursue my dream of being a music teacher.”

Beth Peters, who will graduate with a degree in Music Education, was born and raised in Rutland, Vermont. Once she graduates she plans to continue her education at the University of Maine by pursuing a masters degree in Higher Education.

The Martina Rezendes Scholarship Fund was established in 2000 with a gift from Dennis Rezendes ’57 in memory of his mother, who loved music and, in particular, vocal music. Scholarships are awarded to undergraduates in the School of Performing Arts who are concentrating their studies in Vocal Performance. “One does not succeed by oneself,” says Dennis Rezendes. Grateful for scholarships and other help he received, he tries to extend help to others. “It all comes back to my parents, growing up as poor as we were, there was always somebody worse off, and my parents understood we had an ethical responsibility to help the other guy.”
