Nathan Levitan Scholarship Fund

Recipient: Sarah Glazier

Sarah Glazier

“I value the Nathan Levitan Scholarship tremendously. Dr. Levitan’s generosity has helped ease the financial burden of paying for my college education. I am very grateful for the support!”

Sarah Glazier graduated from Bangor High School in Bangor, Maine. She is a third year Elementary Education major with a concentration in Human Development. She plans to teach in New England when she graduates from UMaine.

The Nathan Levitan Scholarship Fund was established in 1959 by Dr. Leon B. Levitan, Class of 1938, in memory of his father, Nathan Levitan. This fund is given to students who have demonstrated financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to students of Jewish extraction and/or students who are majoring in the field of social, theoretical, or historical economics.

This scholarship is a good example of the power of endowment. Established with a gift of $5,000, today, the fund has a principal of nearly $152,000; a fair market value of nearly $223,000 and has benefited countless students since its inception.
