Professor George C. Krueger Memorial Fund is Established
The Professor George C. Krueger Memorial Fund has been established at the Foundation by Sidney and Eleanor Butler. Professor Krueger, who passed away in September of 2004, was inspirational to many University of Maine students. After he obtained his Ph.D. from Brown University, Professor Krueger joined the faculty at the University of Maine, where he diligently instructed and mentored students in a career that spanned 47 years.
The Butlers graduated from the University of Maine, Ellie in 1953 with a degree in mathematics, and Sid in 1954 with a degree in physics. Sid commented upon George's impact: "I believe there are many more graduates like myself who were helped by George both in and out of the classroom. His dedication to undergraduate education and scholarship is unique in my thirty-five years of experience as a student and faculty member in universities."

The Professor George C. Krueger Memorial Fund is an endowed fund. Its income will be used (1) to purchase equipment and/or upgrade facilities for the undergraduate physics major laboratory courses and (2) to provide small grant awards to Physics and Engineering Physics undegraduates for their laboratory and research activities, including, but not limited to, travel to conduct research or attend scientific meetings to present their research results.
Upon Professor Krueger's passing, several family, friends, alumni and co-workers made gifts in his memory. Those gifts will be used to immediately implement the Professor George C. Krueger Memorial Fund. If you are someone who was also touched by Professor Krueger and would like to make a gift in memory of Professor Krueger, please contact the Foundation or consider making a gift online. |
