Thursday Club Annual Meeting Held at Buchanan Alumni House

Over fifty members of the Thursday Club met at the Buchanan Alumni House on May 7, 2009 for their annual luncheon. The Thursday Club began in 1911 as an organization of women members of the University of Maine faculty of "instruction or investigation" and wives of faculty members. One of the club's objectives is to promote acquaintance and mutual helpfulness among its members. A second objective is to award scholarships through the Thursday Club Scholarship Fund at the University of Maine Foundation for non-traditional students who have completed twenty-four credit hours. The Fund perpetuates the name and spirit of the Thursday Club--women supporting women. One of this year's scholarship recipients, Joanne Lynch, told the group how very grateful she is for their support. The stories scholarship recipients tell of the obstacles they overcame to join the University of Maine student body, their hard work, goals, and future plans make Thursday Club members realize how much these scholarships mean.

Below are photos of some of the Thursday Club members enjoying the day and the company of one another.
