All Maine Women Honor Society President's Endowment Fund Established
The All Maine Women Honor Society President's Endowment Fund was established in the University of Maine Foundation in 2007 for the benefit of the University of Maine All Maine Women Honor Society. The fund was created with a gift from the Bacas Family Foundation in celebration of Esther Randall Bacas '44, president of the All Maine Women Honor Society, Class of 1944. In addition to her undergraduate role as president of AMW, Mrs. Bacas also served as vice-president of Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and president of Omicron Nu National Honor Society. After graduation, Mrs. Bacas attended Harvard University and thereafter followed a career as a physical therapist in Warm Springs, Georgia, treating soldiers returning from World War II. Married in 1957, she and her husband raised two children, Andrew Bacas and Mary Bacas Glerum, who now serve as president and vice-president of the Bacas Family Foundation. Throughout their lives, the Bacas family has supported academic excellence and service to others in many arenas. The income from this fund will be used to provide scholarship aid each year for the three junior women tapped for induction into the incoming class of the All Maine Women Honor Society with the highest accumulative grade point average. |
