Huguette P. Labbé Doherty Franco-American Centre Fund
The Huguette P. Labbé Doherty Franco-American Centre Fund was established in the University of Maine Foundation in 2008 with gifts made in loving memory of Huguette P. Labbé Doherty. Mrs. Doherty was born in Rang-Saint Pierre near Saint-Georges-de-Beauce, Québec. The family moved to Madison, Maine in 1951 where Huguette attended public schools and later the University of Maine at Orono. She married Richard Doherty and bore two children, Kelly and Scott. The last years of her life were spent with her family in Los Angeles which included two grand children, Maggie and Finean. For the past thirty years, Huguette was an ardent supporter of the University of Maine Franco- American Centre. This endowment will honor her life, her courage, her humility, and most of all, her devotion to family. The principal shall be endowed and only the income, as established by the University of Maine Foundation Board of Directors, shall be used to provide unrestricted support for the Franco-American Centre at the University of Maine at the discretion of the Director of the Franco-American Centre. This support can include (but not be limited to) Centre projects, scholarships related to Franco-American studies and other Centre activities. The Director of the Franco-American Centre at the University of Maine, Orono (or his or her designee) shall administer the income from the fund. |
