Carol A. Radgowski Memorial Scholarship

The Carol A. Radgowski Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 by the family of Carol A. Radgowski in her memory. It is a wonderful example of how a family can demonstrate their love and respect for a lost famCarol A. Radgowskiily member, and at the same time provide perpetual support for students at the University of Maine.

Carol's family created this scholarship because education was very important to her. She always stressed the importance of learning, whether in school, on the job, or socializing with friends and family. Her philosophy was that doing well at school would provide a person with the opportunity to do what she (or he) loved.

Carol Radgowski was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts. After completing high school, she studied to become and X-Ray technician at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She worked in this field for a number of years. Later she worked in retail sales. Throughout her life, she continued to learn through reading, courses, and life experiences.

According to her children, Edward W. Radgowski, Jr., a member of the Class of 1989, Todd J. Radgowski, a member of the Class of 1995, Jeffrey L. Radgowski and Wendy M. Radgowski:

Our Mom emphasized the importance of education from the beginning. She was always willing to read to us and help us with our homework. It was apparent to us at a young age that education was the key to our future success. Mom emphasized this in a caring manner, always encouraging us to aim high and not to be afraid to pursue whatever subject interested us most.

Mom emphasized the qualities that she taught us. She was warm and loving and believed in the importance of treating everyone with respect and kindness. She also believed in being a contributing member of society. When she passed away at a young age from brain cancer, we decided to keep her memory and teachings alive. She always felt that education was the key to unlocking one's dreams and passions. For this reason, we established this scholarship. Maine was also our Mom's favorite place. The University of Maine was particularly special as two of her sons attended this school, and she relished each chance to visit them.

We hope that this gift of a scholarship will help students pursue their dreams and find happiness in their lives. It is what our mother, Carol Radgowski, would have wanted.

If you, you and your family and/or you and some close friends are contemplating ways to memorialize a lost relative or close friend, please give some consideration to doing what the Radgowskis did for their mother. Please contact the Planned Giving Staff at the Foundation to learn how.
