Dr. Beatrice K. Reynolds Scholarship

Dr. Beatrice K. Reynolds

"It is very easy and economical to establish a scholarship at the University of Maine, and it is exciting to do so! Unlike other colleges and universities that request as much as $50,000 to establish a scholarship, you can establish your scholarship at the University of Maine for $20,000.* Now that's affordable!" says Dr. Beatrice Reynolds '59.

"You can make tax deductible contributions as often as you wish, as long as you meet federal guidelines. It is a win-win situation for the student and the donor, and giving what I can afford to give and when I want to make those contributions, brings me great joy, for I know that I am helping someone get a college education who might otherwise not have been able to attend the University of Maine in Orono. I established my scholarship, in my name, three years ago, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and I feel great about it. I will continue to make contributions to it, even after I die, for I have named the University of Maine Foundation and my scholarship fund the beneficiaries on my retirement accounts and bank accounts. And that is another benefit: my soul will live on in that scholarship long after I have left my earthly life. And that makes me feel great!"

Beatice K. Reynolds, Ph.D. graduated in 1959 with a B.A. degree in theatre from UMaine in Orono. She received her Master of Arts degree in speech from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio in 1962, and her doctorate of philosophy degree in speech from The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, Pennsylvania in 1968. She taught speech at Rider College, Lawrenceville, N.J.; Sterns High School, Millinocket Maine; University of Connecticut, Hartford Branch; The Pennsylvania State University, University Park; Brooklyn College, CUNY; and University of Houston-Victoria, Texas. She also taught part-time at University of Maine at Augusta, University of Southern Maine, and she taught Rhetorical Criticism one semester at the University of Maine in Orono.

*The minimum to endow a named scholarship is now $20,000; however, the University of Maine Foundation will accept smaller amounts to which additional sums may be added over time.
