Tim ’54 and Barbara McManus

Tim and Barbara McManus

Tim and Barbara McManus became concerned about the number of young people who were opting to leave the state of Maine, particularly in light of the loss of manufacturing and technology jobs over the past several years.

“Kids are our best resources and we need to keep that brain power in Maine,” says Tim. “One way to do that is to encourage bright young people to stay in Maine by providing them with financial assistance through scholarships.”

The Edward “Tim” McManus ’54 and Barbara Fitzgerald McManus Scholarship Fund was established in 2004 in honor of Tim’s 50th class reunion. Aware of the shortage of qualified teachers in the state, the scholarship supports College of Education students who agree to pursue employment as a teacher in the state of Maine.

Sadly, Tim McManus passed away on March 4. Gifts in his memory can be made to the Edward "Tim" McManus '54 and Barbara Fitzgerald McManus Scholarship Fund.
