Edie M. King ’67

Edie M. King

Edie King made the most of her opportunity to attend the University of Maine. She was the eldest of five children and the first in the family to go to college. Money was tight, but Edie’s parents understood the importance of an education. Choosing Maine’s state university was both desirable and more affordable. Edie’s enthusiasm was so keen that she memorized the Maine Stein song before she arrived at the University of Maine.

Edie graduate from the University of Maine in 1967 with a degree in Bacteriology. When you talk to Edie, her love for UMaine and for her chosen field of study is apparent. Edie is giving back to her university and supporting students who share her passion for science. In addition to establishing a scholarship, Edie has remembered the University of Maine through a bequest and is a member of the Charles F. Allen Society.

“The beauty of an endowed fund is that the principal is invested, with only the interest paid out. Even a fund that is started with a relatively modest gift, can build over time.”
